Configuring a Windows 95/98
Computer for Dial-up

These instructions will help you set up a Windows 95 or 98 computer to connect to our service. Before we begin, you'll need to have the basic components installed to connect to an Internet network, and to do it via a modem.

It's likely your computer will have these components installed, but to double-check (and if need be, add what you're missing), click here.

Step 1
From your Windows desktop, open the My Computer window. Then, double-click on Dial-Up Networking. You should end up with a screen like this:

Step 2
From Dial-Up Networking, double-click on Make New Connection, and enter a name for the connection you're creating. We'll call this one Nelix Internet as shown below, and click next.

Step 3
Now, you'll be asked to enter the number you wish to dial. Enter in the area code and telephone number for the dialup number you wish to use and click next. You'll find it to look something like this:

Step 4
You now need to click Finish to move onto the next step.

Step 5
At this point, you're brought back to the Dial-Up Networking window. It shows the icon you've just created. We're not done yet though, so right-click on the Nelix Internet icon and select Create Shortcut. You'll be asked if you'd like to place a shortcut on the desktop - just select Yes.

Getting Connected:
Once you open that shortcut from your desktop, you'll see this screen prompt you, verifying the number, and giving you the option to change properties, cancel, or dial right up. To connect, simply click Connect.

Once you're connected, you'll see a dialog box that shows you're online. Once this far, you can use any Internet application you like. For example, you might choose to go browsing on the Web using Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, or read your e-mail by using Outlook Express or Netscape Messenger.

Disconnecting from The Internet:
When you're done and would like to disconnect form NELiX® Inc., you can simply right-click on the Connection Status icon in your System Tray (the area with the small icons by your clock). When you do that, a menu will pop up allowing you to disconnect from right there.
